Welcome to Year 5
Our class saints are St Bernadette and St Pius X
Each week children will need to complete:
One English task
One Maths task
This will either be in their homework books or on Literacy Planet.
They will also be expected to complete timetable games on the 'Timestable Rockstars' website (See links on main page)
Homework will be given out on a Wednesday and will be collected in on a Monday.
Children will be expected to learn a set of ten spellings each week. They will need to write each of these spelling three times. These are to be recorded in their red spelling books.
Then they will need to write a sentence to show their understanding of the words.
As an extension of the task for spelling, children can find three new interesting words they have come across that week and add them to their list of words to practise.
Spelling tests are on Tuesday morning.
Children will be expected to read every day.
Parents will be asked to comment in their blue Home Reader Record at least three times each week.
There is a new online tool to support them in reading and comprehension. It is called 'Reading Buddies' and the link can be found on the main website.
On the Reading Buddies site they will have access to thousands of books to read. They can keep a record of the books they have read in their library. Every children will choose a virtual 'buddy' that will help and support them as they read.
Children in year 5 will take part in PE every Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure they have the correct clothing/kit for this.
Children will be taken swimming in small groups throughout the year. Mr Perkins will send a letter home when your child has been selected. If your child has been chosen to complete their swimming this half term, please ensure they have the correct clothing for this too. Swimming is on a Wednesday
