Early Help Offer

The Rosary Universal Pledge

“Let no-one ever come to you without leaving happier.”

St. Teresa of Calcutta

The vision for every child at the Rosary School is for them to ‘dream, believe and achieve.’ As a school we have considered how best to meet the needs of our children and families as we understand the importance of being ready to learn in order to dream anything is possible, believe it can happen and achieve their true potential.

In order for this to happen we have developed our Rosary Universal Pledge –  our universal pledge for every Rosary pupil.

Children greeted each morning by member of senior leadership team, pastoral team and class teacher.

School open for all from 8.25am with time to settle and prepare for teaching and learning.

Time to complete homework and reading during this time if needed.

Filtered water available throughout the day for hydration.

A trauma informed approach.

Visual timetables reinforcing routines enabling continuity and familiarity.

Quiet spaces in school and in the playground.

A broad and balanced curriculum with experiences to enhance learning and after school provision in sport, arts and education.

Adapted teaching to meet the needs of all pupils.

A celebration of each child unique characteristics and their successes.

The Rosary Targeted Pledge

As a school we recognise that our universal pledge will meet the needs of most of our families but that at times there may be a need for additional support. Our philosophy is to work with families at the earliest possible opportunity to implement the support required. Details of all that school can offer are shown below and we would always encourage families to seek support and advice at the earliest opportunity so that issues do not escalate.

The targeted support services we offer within school to meet the needs of our pupils and families.

Class teachers first point of contact should issues arise

SENCO – contact Mrs Banks for matters relating to SEND

RAINBOWS – led by Mr Perkins and Mrs Robinson a pupil group for those who are grieving from some type of loss. This group provide a safe environment that encourages communication while identifying, navigating and discussing difficult feelings that accompany loss.

NURTURE GROUP – led by Mr Perkins and Mrs Robinson focus on learning, social and emotional needs of pupils and give help that is needed to remove the barriers to learning. Focused on relationships, it aims to foster a nurturing relationship between peers that will allow them to access learning.

SEMH – Some pupils may at times, need additional support with regards to their social, emotional and mental health. Specific support will be provided by our pastoral team, this may be in a small group or on a 1:1 basis depending on the need of the child

ATTENDANCE – Our pastoral lead, Mrs Robinson closely monitors attendance. Her role is to support families but to ensure pupils regularly attend school on time in order for them to reach their potential.

EARLY HELP -There are times when children and their families may need support from a wide range of local agencies. Where a child and family would benefit from support with more than one agency (e.g. education, health, housing) an Early Help Assessment will be offered, led by Mr Perkins our lead mentor.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE – The school employs the services of West Midlands Speech and Language Therapy, a private speech and therapy service who regularly attend in school to assess and monitor progress of children that need support.  Working with individual pupils, our speech therapist, Carol Sutton, also works with our own support staff and families to optimise provision and support for identified pupils.

FAMILY SUPPORT – Fr Hudson’s Family support service supports families and children to overcome adversity and disadvantage they face, particularly where these are affecting a child’s emotional well-being, mental health or educational achievement.   Our support worker, Eunice, works with families to help children who are experiencing difficulties both at home and at school.  She will work in collaboration with the family to motivate parents to bring about change, strengthen relationships within families and promote children’s well-being and resilience.  Through both 1:1 and sometimes group work, the support offered by Eunice empowers families to effect lasting change. This service is offered on a referral basis through Mrs Banks.

READING WITH DOGS – An evidenced based therapy programme which aims to raise the confidence and self-esteem of identified pupils through the opportunity to read to a volunteer reading dog.

COBS  – Working with the City of Birmingham Outreach programme to provide early and targeted support through a holistic, child centred approach so that barriers to learning can be removed.
