School of Sanctuary

We are delighted to be recognised as a School of Sanctuary. We have joined together as a school community to make a difference in not only our society, but our world.

A School of Sanctuary welcomes all. At the Rosary we treat everybody the same and show love to all.

We work closely with St Chad’s Sanctuary, supporting their food bank. We have welcomed Stories of Hope and Home in to discuss their journeys and also made shoe boxes filled with essential items for people who are seeking refuge in our country. We have joined together to pray for those in need.

‘We welcome everybody, no matter their race, religion, hair colour or size’

HSBC Finance - Smart Money Award

We have received the HSBC Smart Money Award for excellence in financial education for 2023 and 2024. This is a reflection of the commitment to supporting pupils’ financial learning which helps Rosary pupils to develop valuable, practical life skills in money management.

Our financial curriculum is delivered through a range of activities and experiences including workshops, visitors and practical experiences based on real-life situations. They cover topics such as budgeting, differentiating between needs and wants and safeguarding financial and personal information

Rights Respecting School (RRSA)

In June 2019, we were awarded Gold as a Unicef Rights Respecting School. This came after a lot of hard work from the children and staff at the school and we are very proud of our achievement. The full report can be viewed below.

We are a Gold UNICEF Rights Respecting School:

  • The use of the ABCDE of Rights at the centre of The Rosary’s strategy to deepen the whole school’s understanding of the rights.
  • The use of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) to support all members of this Catholic Faith school, where a significant number of the children are from different faiths, to respect and embrace difference and participate in school.
  • The high aspirations of the children for themselves and their level of confidence when they talked about the CRC, their participation, their school and their learning, was inspirational.

As a school community we  work together to promote the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in all that we do. As a Rights Respecting School, it has helped us to celebrate learning and teaching which encourages respect for ourselves and others. This has also helped us further develop ways of involving all our pupils regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, nationality and religion to become more empowered in the day to day running and the strategic vision of the school.

Some of the ways we illustrate this is through embedding the articles into our policies, School Development Plan, our positive behaviour approaches and strategies, curriculum and planning.  We want our children to become leaders of the school, steering the school towards excellence, whilst developing citizenship and knowledge related to British values, examples of this are through the UNICEF Steering Group, School, and Faith, councils.

The UNCRC is embedded in our mission statement: Jesus Christ, Son of Mary, Son of God, is the centre of The Rosary Community where we live, love and learn together. UNCRC Articles, 3 The Best Interests of the Child, 12 Respect for the views of the child, 13 Freedom of expression, 14 Freedom of thought, belief and religion, and Article 29 Developing every child’s personality and talents, are direct examples of this.
