RE Curriculum
Here at the Rosary we aim to fulfil our Mission Statement – Jesus Christ, Son of Mary, Son of the God is the centre of the Rosary community, where we live, love and learn together – through the delivery of the curriculum and through the messages inherent in the values which we share and permeate through all areas of school life.
Religious Education is not solely about developing each child’s religious knowledge. It is concerned with providing opportunities and experiences through which each child can grow and develop in their faith and spirituality. As a school, we aim to develop every child’s Spiritual, Moral, Social, Vocational and Cultural skills as a part of the RE programme linking to the teachings of Christ. Furthermore, it is concerned with providing opportunities whereby each child can experience expressions of our Catholic culture and heritage.
Our school follows the curriculum strategy – Learning and Growing as the People of God – provided by the Archdiocese of Birmingham for teaching RE in a Catholic primary school.
RE is allocated 10% of curriculum time in line with the expectations of the Archdiocese. Children will participate in whole school masses, class masses, hymn practices and prayer services.
It is suggested that two lessons per week should be allocated to the Programme of Study for RE, whilst a third lesson could be story, song or reflective meditation to reinforce that week’s teaching.
