The Faith Council

Each Autumn term, a new group of Faith Councillors is selected to serve as spiritual leaders within our school community. Pupils interested in this important role are invited to apply and take part in an interview process with the headteacher, Mrs Norris. Once appointed, they receive dedicated training and participate in an ongoing development programme to support them in their mission.

Faith Councillors take on a variety of responsibilities, acting as role models and leaders both within their own classes and throughout the wider school. They play a key part in promoting and nurturing the Catholic ethos of our school, regularly supporting social action and leading by example in faith-based activities.

Throughout the year, the Faith Councillors work closely with the staff Faith Leaders, Mrs Norris, Mrs Price, and Miss Driver to strengthen and celebrate the spiritual life of the school. They help to maintain prayer tables in classrooms, offer guidance and support to peers when needed. Older councillors also lead prayer sessions for younger pupils, especially during significant times in the liturgical calendar such as Lent and Advent.

Faith Councillors are true disciples of Christ, striving to “shine their light” and live out their faith every day. They see needs within the school or community and take initiative to make meaningful change.

Our God Spotters—a special group within the Faith Council—take their responsibilities seriously and with pride. They often welcome and guide visitors around the school, sharing our Catholic identity and values with grace and confidence.

In collaboration with different year groups, the Faith Councillors help to plan and lead prayer services. They also take part in evaluating these services and identifying ways to deepen our shared prayer life. Our Faith Councillors are passionate about building the Kingdom of God by living out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. From promoting human dignity and solidarity to caring for creation and standing up for justice, these values are reflected in everything they do both within school and in the wider community.

Faith Councillors are ambassadors of faith and compassion. “Heart on fire, feet on the move,” reflects their commitment to taking action. They are enthusiastic about engaging in charity work, from fundraising campaigns to prayer initiatives. Working alongside Mrs Price, they have helped transform areas of the school to create more sacred spaces, such as revitalising the Reception prayer garden to offer children more opportunities for quiet reflection and prayer.

Their impact extends beyond the school gates. The Faith Council maintains a special relationship with Ambrose Barlow, where they host a Dementia Café several times a year. During these visits, they spend time with the elderly community, sharing in conversation and engaging in crafts, jigsaws, and other meaningful activities. These moments of connection are deeply valued by both the children and the residents, as they live out their faith through compassion and service.

Inspired by the teachings of Pope Francis, particularly his encyclical Laudato Si’, our Faith Councillors are deeply committed to caring for our common home. They work hard to promote environmental awareness throughout the school, encouraging others to reflect on the beauty of God’s creation and the responsibility we all share in protecting it. Through prayer services, assemblies, and fundraising activities—especially in support of CAFOD—they share powerful messages about climate change, sustainability, and the positive actions we can all take.

Their passion for environmental justice was a driving force behind the school’s achievement of the Live Simply Award in 2025, a recognition we were delighted to receive. The Faith Councillors played a vital role in this success, leading by example with energy and conviction. Their efforts continue to inspire the school community to live simply, act justly, and walk humbly with God.

Finally, the Faith Councillors take care to keep our school governors informed about their activities and progress. They regularly meet with the Chair of Governors to provide updates and share insights from their work, ensuring the spiritual growth of the school is always a shared priority.
