Physical Education (PE)

Our children will become physically active and enjoy participating. Our aim is to provide opportunities for all children to participate in competitive sport and our activities build character, communication, teamwork and a sense of belonging, as well as help to embed values such as fairness and respect. Our pupils will appreciate and learn the skills needed to maintain and engage in a healthy lifestyle now and in the future, both mentally and physically.

At the Rosary school we offer a range of sports both in the curriculum and as extra-curricular activities, for both boys and girls. These include: – Football, Hockey, Running, Basketball, Cricket, Athletics, Fitness clubs, Multi sports, Tennis, Netball, Volleyball, Gaelic Football, Swimming, Boxing and Archery.

The Rosary School is a member of the Saltley primary schools league, and have participated in numerous football matches, developing the children’s confidence on the football pitch. We are also a part of the BCSSA and through this; we are able to participate in a variety of sports, including: Netball, Badminton, Football, Gaelic Football and Cricket. Offering children a variety of choices within competitive sports.

A focus within the Rosary is swimming; pupils are given the opportunity to swim once a week, in a small group situation, for nine weeks in Year 5 in order to develop their swimming skills consistently. This has resulted in our children showing a visible improvement with their swimming skills and working towards achieving their distance badges. For many of the children this is their first opportunity to attempt swimming.

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education)

Rosary children will become healthier, more independent and more responsible members of modern society. Pupils will be encouraged to play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider community. We teach them in simple ways how society is organised and governed and the process of democracy.  Children will recognise their rights and responsibilities. They learn to appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse and multicultural society.

There are six units covered in PSHE and Citizenship over the academic year. These are Rights and responsibilities (Citizenship focus), money, health, feelings and friendship, safety and risk and identity. The overview can be found below. Each week, PSHE lessons alternate with Relationships and Health Education (RHE)
