Prayer and Liturgy

“I take refuge, then, in prayer, and turn to Mary, and our Lord always triumphs.”

St. Therese of Lisieux

Prayer and Liturgy is an integral part of school life at the Rosary. Different forms of prayer and liturgy that take place at our school include:

  • During the week pupils from all year groups gather together for whole school assemblies and celebration assemblies.
  • Prayer services and class masses take place on alternate weeks in the school chapel or the Church.
  • We gather for whole school masses at the start and end of each term, on Holy Days of Obligation and at other special occasions such as the feasts of St Therese of Lisieux and our Lady of the Rosary.
  • Child led prayer and liturgy is planned at regular intervals focused on different seasons.
  • Each classroom has a dedicated prayer area where the class prays at regular intervals throughout the day.

At the heart of our school community is a deep commitment to prayer and spiritual growth. Prayer is woven into every part of school life, guiding our children as they grow in faith, compassion, and understanding.

Each half term, each class focuses on a new prayer theme. Pupils work collaboratively with their teachers to plan and deliver thoughtful and reflective class prayer services. These special moments are often shared with families, as children are encouraged to invite parents to join them in prayer and worship. After each service, children take time to reflect on their experience, and our Faith Councillors also play a key role—visiting other classes, offering feedback, and sharing ideas to help enrich the prayer life of the whole school.

Spiritual retreats form an important part of our children’s faith journey. We use the OneLife platform to support and structure these experiences, giving pupils opportunities to pause, reflect, and engage deeply in prayer. These retreats include meaningful Mission challenges, where children are encouraged to take what they’ve learned and shine their light within the wider community. Through these experiences, children are introduced to a variety of prayer styles, helping them explore personal ways to connect with God.

Each week, the school gathers for Praise and Worship, a joyful celebration where children sing and praise God together.

“To sing is to pray twice” – Saint Augustine

To encourage spontaneous and personal prayer, we have provided a Prayer Intentions Board in the playground. Children are invited to write down their private intentions or prayers for others, creating a space where heartfelt thoughts and petitions can be shared respectfully and prayerfully.

Our school chapel is a sacred and peaceful place where children can take time for quiet prayer and reflection. During special seasons in the liturgical calendar, the children are invited to take part in Pupil Prayer sessions, often planned and led by our older children for the younger ones. These moments of leadership not only build confidence but also deepen their understanding of how to live out their faith.
