Literacy Week 1

We know how amazing you are at writing and so we want to hear your own stories. Using the Expanded Noun Phrase, have a go at writing a setting description based on the photo below.

For parents to support - the Expanded Noun Phrase is where the children are to choose two different adjectives to describe a noun.

For example, the creepy, lonely cottage stood in the middle of the deep, dark forest.

Use the writing frame below to help write a description of the setting. You may want to gather lots of adjectives to describe in the first lesson.

Lesson 1 - LO: To use the Expanded Noun Phrase to describe what you can see.

I can see the _______________, _______________ cottage.

In the ______________, _________________ forest.

Lesson 2 - LO: To use our descriptions to create a setting for a story.

Using the Expanded Noun Phrases created in the first learning session, use your sentence knowledge to create a description for the setting of a story.

In the _________________, _________________ forest, where there was a _______________ fog.

It was as _______________________ as a ________________________. Behind the _________________ fog was

______________________, _____________________. It was as ______________________ as ____________________.

It smelled like _________________________________. The door creaked open and out walked as ____________________.

Literacy Week 1

Below will lead you to the Phonics which we will need you to practise every day, so that you don't forget them wonderful sounds!

Phonics Challenge this week

Topic - Science - Materials

Topic - this half term in Science we have been looking at materials and their properties.

After reading the information, as attached above, we would like you to be imaginative and create something that will give people information about a chosen material. You don't need to use all the materials, you can focus on just one.

Some ideas might be;

  • Create a poster about a material - what do we use it for? What things can you find in your house that is made from that material?
  • Create a song/rap/poem about a material
  • Find a selection of materials in your house and make a fact file about them.

We can't wait to see what you come up with!smiley
